Welcome to The Ivy League Look

This blog presents a historical view through articles, photographs, reminiscences, and advertisements, of an American style of men's fashion of the mid-20th century known as "The Ivy League Look" or "The Ivy Look."

This blog will not present modern-day iterations of this "look"; it will be shown in its original context as an American style worn during this specific era. Author commentary will be kept to a minimum.

This is not a commercial site and links to commercial sites will not be posted.

Thoughts?

This blog is now in its fifth month and I've made over 100 posts. Although comments are few and far between, I can see that many of you return on a regular basis. I'm appreciative of the regular readers and to Longwing, Heavy Tweed Jacket, and Ivy Style (edit: and Patrick and Conor) for linking this blog on their sites.

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on this blog. Do you find it worthwhile? Do you have any suggestions for improvement? Do you have any ideas for new posts? Send an e-mail or comment directly under this post.

Thanks for reading!

Great blog. I stop by every time you post something new. Maybe some 70's adverts would give the mid-century stuff more context, good and bad.

A great Blog , I have a look everyday ... sadly the old adverts only reinforce the fact that things havn't changed for the better.

Mr. Look, I feel that your blog is the finest. It lets the material speak for itself; Everything else on the subject seems colored by the blogger (sometimes in a good way, sometimes bad.) I like that you lay off of the 'lifestyle' aspect and let the material speak for itself. Thank you, and keep doing what you are doing.

Looker, I think there are a lot of people who are interested in this stuff. They're loving it over at Talk Ivy. I tried to sneak in a dis and I had some guy jumping all over me. Certainly it's a limited beat, but that is by design so no complaints there. This blog is the purest of the pure.
If you want more comments you might try editorializing a little more. Get opinionated. Talk some trash.

a great blog -one I read often-avoids usual and absurd lifestyle judgements

It's really excellent. The ads speak for themselves, I think, and don't usually require a comment. Keep up the great work!

Your blog is one of the best! I like the mix of vintage ads, articles, and links to significant forum posts.

Indisputably one of the best blogs around.
A feast for sore eyes.

I am kinda addicted to your great blog, which gives me a lot of information about the Ivy League look. The Ivy League look is, I believe, nothing but the American way of life.

I know I should comment more, because I enjoy this blog immensely. Please continue this as long as you are able. The pure and unflinching Ivy focus of this blog is historically significant.

TILL,

Your blog's perfect. Nothing but the hits and it keeps on hittin'. Don't change a thing.

More Gentry! Are you the guy who keeps beating me on Ebay?

You have a great blog. Give it some time and I promise you things'll pick up--unless you keep changing it like LWing.

tintin,

Nothing I've posted (so far) has cost me anything. It's all free, streaming electrons available to anyone who knows where to look. That said, there are a few issues of LIFE I'd like to get a hold of.

The Gentry (issue 4) pages were posted by someone on flickr and the pages (more to come) from issue 5 were posted by AlanC on the Trad Forum.

Thanks for the comments, all.

Please keep posting. I really enjoy this blog. I'm originally from New Haven and when I read your blog, at times I'm back in high school and walking on York St.

Rather a latecomer to this site, I'm afraid, but I've been enjoying the archives immensely and look forward to reading more here.
