  1. Whites was one of the best stores in New Haven back then (1964-5). For a couple of Christmases, my brother and sister and I would buy our mother a Shetland Sweater suit - usually with a snowflake pattern on the top. I believe we bought her one in blue and one in a very light green (not sure what to call the shade). I think the suit cost about $100 at the time, and we each kicked in $35 or so to cover the tax as well. She really loved it on Christmas morning.

    Everything in Whites was beautiful. It was a very classy store and rivaled other shops that you've listed here.
